  • He opened Abuelo's when he was twenty-five and name it after his grandfather.[4]
  • Graciela said that there was no friction between the priests and Hector. 'Father Flores' used to eat in their restaurant or even in his home.[5]
  • Hector gave Lino a job when he was fifteen; Lino stole from him.[6]

Interesting FactsEdit

  • A Catholic, his funeral was held at the St. Cristóbal's; he gave, as gifts, the paten and chalice used during his Requiem Mass.[8]
    • 'Father Flores' (Lino), who performed the ritual by request, had known Hector and had heard his final confession only a week before.[9]
  • His favorite saint was Saint Lawrence. St. Lawrence had been grilled to death for his faith and in the way of irony became the patron saint of restaurateurs.[10] He had loved the music of Mass.[11]
  • He was a fixture in the parish; well-loved and well-respected.[12]
  • In good weather, he walked in the mornings and might see Fathers Freeman and Flores during their run.[13]
